Fick As Fieves
Foundation students at Colchester Institute were asked to work on a brief titled 'Bricolage'. After seeing stickers dotted around the campus and in Colchester town advertising the band "Fick As Fieves', in the spirit of bricolage I decided to take the name of the band and screenprint a poster based on my frustration with the coalition government's drastic raft of cuts.
The marriage of Conservatives (cyan) and Liberal Democarats (yellow) lends itself to the overprinting technique that screenprinting faclilitates so well. The three blocks of text provide context, statistics (details of the 2010 general election results for Colchester) and the phrase "We are all in this together" with the word 'Cuts' underneath, which is open to typographic interpretation.
Thanks to the band members of Fick as Fieves who generously entered into the spirit of the project and let me appropriate their name.
